Whole wheat spring roll / Samosa sheets

I love spring rolls. But I think a lot when it comes to making them at home, thinking, it is very difficult to prepare and its fried food, etc..etc..Still I managed to prepare twice or thrice at home. The best part is that, you can make the sheets, freeze it and use it whenever you want. You can use it even for preparing samosas.

Here, I prepared spring roll sheets using wheat flour, which I felt is the more healthier option rather than using all purpose flour. You can also use the all purpose flour or the combination of both. There are many ways to prepare the same. But, I usually prepare using the following method.

Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 1 cup
  • Oil- 2 tsp
  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • water - Approx 3/4 cup
  • Wheat flour for dusting and spreading
  • Oil for spreading

Method

  • Combine whole wheat flour, oil and salt together in a bowl and mix well.

  • Add water, knead and make it into a semi stiff dough. Smear some oil on top to avoid forming a coating. Cover and rest it for 30 minutes.

  • Now, divide the dough in to small portions and make them in to very small lemon sized balls.

  • Take 2 balls.

  • Roll out each one in to small circles.

  • Now, take 2 drops of oil drizzle over the top and spread it using your hands, on 1 circle. Sprinkle some wheat flour. Do the same for the other circle also.

  • Now, stick both the circles, oiled side down. Roll them out in to very thin sheets. Sprinkle wheat flour in order to prevent from sticking.

  • Heat a tawa and place this on it. Cook until you see some bubble. Flip over and cook it.

  • You can even see it will puff up like phulka. Remove from heat. Make sure not to cook it completely. It should be semi cooked.

  • Now, find the open part and pull them, so that you will get 2 thin sheets. Repeat the same for rest of the dough.

  • Look how thin it is.

  • Your sheets are now ready. You can store them in a zip lock bag and use it whenever you want to make samosas / spring rolls.
